An amazing vacation with breathtaking scenery.
We had an amazing time here. Great location for fishing. My sons fished most of the week and caught a lot of trout. I'm somewhat of a germaphobe and can have a hard time relaxing at vacation homes, but I did not have that problem here. The house was very clean. We all enjoyed snacking of the basket of goodies that was left for us, especially after traveling all day. It was a sweet gesture. Randy and Samantha were easy to work with and were always quick to answer any questions we had. We look forward to coming back again one day!

The Caddis Shack is Amazing!
Our extended family of nine has vacationed together every summer for 12 years and we all agreed this was the best vacation ever! The Caddis Shack is a beautiful property and the amenities in the house are fantastic. Samantha and Randy have thought of everything-from binoculars to ice chests- to make guests comfortable. The chef’s kitchen has top-of-the- line appliances, and every “gadget and small appliance" you could ever need. The fly fishing enthusiasts in our group were amazed, not only at how superb the fishing was in the Madison River, but also how well designed the house is for ease of storing and using fishing gear. The house is convenient, not only for visiting Yellowstone National Park, but also for white water rafting, hiking and other fun activities. Caddis Shack is is a beautiful home in a beautiful location, and our family is already talking about returning!

Amazing Property
Excellent stay from start to finish!! Beautiful property. We enjoyed use of the game room, fire pit, grill, decks, etc. All the beds were super comfortable. Cabin is very clean and organized. The complimentary coolers were used everyday as we packed picnics for the park. This was hands down the best place!!

Seriously? Seriously!
The owners of this property put in SO MUCH care and attention to this house and our experience there. So many details to make your stay a good one are done right. Not to overstate things, but ALL of the details! And it's exceptionally clean. It's clear they have stayed at many vacation rental properties and applied all of the things they saw and liked to their own property. If you are considering staying at this property, just pull the trigger. You won't be disappointed!

Best place ever
If you forgot anything, don't worry it's there. Large tv's in every room, nice fire pit, grill, coolers, just beautiful. You won't find a nicer place or better service by the owners. Super nice people and place to stay.

Vacation destination with a majestic view
From the time you arrive at the front door of this home away from home , you have a back drop of God’s wonderful canvas of art. Nestled against a mountain with the beautiful Madison River at its base. Once you enter the door you step into a luxurious log home that leaves your mind to a place of peace and comfort. The deck off the back gives you the opportunity to watch beautiful sunsets, the masters of fly fishermen as that attempt to make a trout rise from the water and the peaceful sound of the water as it flows over the rocks. Unfortunately for us we were only there 5 nights, but will plan another trip there soon!

Fantastic Property!
After reading the reviews of previous guests, we were anticipating an excellent property.. The Chaddis Shack far exceeded any of our expectations. I can't say enough about this property. We stayed for a week in July with our sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. It was a multigenerational gathering to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. What a perfect setting! The house was great for dinners together and just "hanging out" as a group while also large enough to provide space for individuals who wanted a little "alone time". The fly fishermen in the family loved walking out and having immediate access to the Madison river. The fire pit and lower level recreation room was fun for everyone. I should also mention the welcome basket which had been personalized just for our family. We went into Yellowstone Park several days but also had fun taking in activities closer to the house. We left the property with wonderful memories of a very special family time. We all agreed the house was one of the highlights of the week. We are hoping to return again!

Wonderful property, amenities, and location. We loved the proximity to Yellowstone and fly fishing in the Madison right in the backyard. Our kids are already planning their return trip.

The Caddis Shack is without doubt one of the most beautiful properties we have stayed at. Clean-well stocked with all cooking needs and the view is breath-taking! If your looking for a great place to stay in Montana ---look no further then the Caddis Shack---You can't go wrong!

As advertised and more
We stayed at Caddis Shack for a week in September. This was a get together of long time friends who long ago moved away to raise families and pursue careers. Now retired, these four couples come together every other year to reconnect and have fun. This year’s destination was Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Although a bit of a drive from this property to these national parks, the scenery was spectacular at all times. And what a house to return to after a day in the parks. Randy and Samantha have thought of everything. The kitchen is fully stocked and the appliances were in excellent working order. The additional wine refrigerators were a bonus as was a welcome basket of coffees and snacks. Very thoughtful. The house is roomy with four good size bedrooms and a loft bedroom. The living room was a great place to congregate and the tv and other media/tech was easy to use. This property also offers you an opportunity to grill and eat outside as well as sit by a fire ring while gazing at the clear Montana sky. Although we were not a fishing group, I can imagine that this place would fulfill every fly fisher’s dream. The Madison is spectacular. All-in-all, the Caddis Shack is perfect in every way.

50th Anniversary
What an amazing property! We had three generations, ages four through 70 and every one left with life long memories of staying at the Caddis Shack. Our oldest granddaughter stayed up in the loft and she and her younger cousin used that as their refuge and special place to share thoughts, games and music. My husband spent time fishing on the Madison, of course, and had one day surrounded by children and grands, showing them the finer points of fly fishing.... following extensive prep work in the basement, of course. We ate in almost every meal and everyone appreciated the flow of the kitchen, lots of room to cook and socialize! All loved the game room.....usually with more games than one going at the same time! The night it snowed, (Yes! We had snow) we all gathered around the fireplace after an insane frolic outside. We did, of course, spend lots of time exploring Yellowstone Park and all the area had to offer, but coming "home" to Caddis Shack can't be beat. I'll end with what my granddaughter made sure I wrote in the Guest Book, "Make sure you tell them to take time to enjoy the house."

You Won't Be Disappointed!
My husband and I go on a vacation with another couple every year and we usually try to pick a different location each time. This was our sixth year in a row and I can honestly say was our favorite. I have never stayed in a rental house that felt so much like our home for the week. And that is completely thanks to Randy and Samantha for all of the thoughtful things that they do for you while staying here. From the laundry detergent for both washers and dryers to the QTips on the bathroom countertop to the binoculars and bear spray provided for you and a fire pit in the backyard with wood, it seems they have thought of everything! We spent most of our days out and about but loved returning home to the house at night to fish on the river a few steps away, sit on the deck or by the fire, play ping pong and Jenga, and cook dinner together as much as possible. We honestly wished we had stayed longer so that we could spend more time at the house instead of being gone all day. They were also very helpful prior to our trip, answering any questions we had and providing guidance or suggestions. We even arrived to find a welcome package of snacks, beer and other goodies with a handwritten card. It meant a lot to us to have such a personalized touch. This house is amazing and anyone is lucky to have the opportunity to stay there! The location of the house is great. It's close to Yellowstone yet also close to other very neat areas in Montana. As far as things to do in the area outside of Yellowstone, we would highly recommend Wade Lake. We rented a kayak, paddle board and a boat there for a day and it was beautiful. We also really enjoyed the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone (bring bug spray!!). As far as food, our favorites were the Grizzly Bar, Slippery Otter and Buffalo Bar. We also visited the ghost towns of Virginia and Nevada City and stopped by Ennis on the way back for lunch. I would also recommend flying into Salt Lake and driving up to the house if you have the time to spare. We were able to see Bear Lake and the Grand Teton's on the BEAUTIFUL drive up to the house. It took us all day but with lots of stops and it was well worth it. This is a dream home and location and we hope to be able to visit again one day!

A vacation to remember!
This was the absolute best experience our family has ever had renting a vacation property. The thought and time Randy and Samantha have put into this home could not offer anything less than a wonderful experience for everyone. The house was absolutely spotless when we arrived. We found every amenity we could possibly need, along with a detailed book of things to do in the area. The back deck offered a fantastic view of the river as well as a variety of wild game on the mountains (elk, deer, antelope, and big horn sheep). Binoculars were hanging by the door ready for the outdoor enthusiast to enjoy the views. The fishing out the back door was amazing. My nephew caught some of the biggest trout he had ever seen. We went out on several adventures to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole, however, you can have an amazing vacation without ever leaving the property. I highly recommend The Caddis Shack to everyone.

Great time, at a Great Place, with Great Friends!
Our stay at the Caddis Shack was top notch! The owner's have really gone out of their way to make this property feel like home for all that visit. After a day of fishing on the water, visiting West Yellowstone, or hanging out in Ennis, it was so great to return "home" and be able to cook a home cooked meal in a beautiful kitchen that has all that you need, then be able to choose to either watch TV or watch the birds and the river from the cozy living room. The best part of the evening at the Caddis Shack, was to quietly retire to one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in and to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the river. All in all our stay was awesome and not long enough, will definitely be going back!

Beautiful Property, Something for Everyone!
Our stay at the Caddis Shack was perfect. The house is well appointed and provisioned for guests (thank you for your thoughtfulness Randy and Samantha!). We appreciated every extra special touch like the "just in case" complimentary toiletries, house guidebook with hiking, activities, and excursion suggestions, and helpful household hints. The ping pong table in the basement is fun for all ages and keep the binoculars handy for viewing wildlife on the river in the backyard! Whether prepping for a day in Yellowstone National Park (do note that the profile says 'West Yellowstone' but the property is about 20 miles from the town and park entrance. The scenic drive is a pleasure!) or sitting by the fire and watching the fishermen, the Caddis Shack is a house for the whole family. We had three generations together during our visit and everyone had their own space. We visited the Park 3 out of 4 days, but certainly would have loved more days "at home" to enjoy the heavenly natural surroundings! Sun, rain, and snow were all breathtaking backdrops for the Madison River and October fall colors. Trust me, you'll have everything you need and want at this wonderful rental, we can't wait to return!

A Celebration of Love and Life in 5 Star Luxury
This vacation was special to the 6 of us. Two couples were celebrating 40 years of marriage and another couple was celebrating 46 years and winning a battle with cancer Thank You Randy and Samantha for the Montana Wine that you gave us for our celebration. We loved it. We have taken many trips together over the years and stayed in numerous vrbo properties, but never have we hit the jackpot like we did with The Caddis Shack. This home is absolutely awesome. We appreciated the ability for each couple to have their own private space to retreat to and the amenities were absolutely top of the line. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed and then some. On our first day at The Caddis Shack, it became obvious to us that this home is located on a stretch of the Madison River that is popular with Fly Fishing Guides and Fly Fishing enthusiasts. We are from Texas and our husbands are avid fisherman so they felt like we just landed in heaven. Fly fishing was a new experience for us and we eventually learned that the way we fish the lakes of Texas is day and night difference from fishing the Madison River...but it was fun learning. One day we drove to Cliff Lake and Wade Lake and the serenity and beauty of those lakes are engraved in our memory forever. We enjoyed visiting the old mining towns of Ennis, MT and Virginia City, MT., but the one thing that captured our interest the most was learning about the 1959 Earthquake and Quake Lake that formed as a result. This lake is a short trip up the road from the house, along with the Visitor Center where we learned about "The Night of Terror" when the earthquake happened. While exploring this area we came across a hidden gem ...the Campfire Lodge, where we found the most amazing little cafe called "The Riverside Cafe". Great food and friendly people and a Fly Shop that provided these Texans with a wealth of information to include the "fly" of the week. The trout menu for that week was an "ant"...who knew? We truly had so much fun and The Caddis Shack was our base to relax, to rejuvenate and to plan our next excursion. The views surrounding the house are simply breathtaking and everyday we enjoyed a visit from a herd of antelope. In closing, and most importantly, I must complement Samantha for her rapid response to all of my calls and questions and to Kathy, the Property Manager, who took care of us from the beginning to the end. We sincerely Thank You for making our 40th+ Anniversary trip a huge success

Incredible and unparalleled experience!
This is the best property I’ve ever rented. The location can not be beat, especially if you’re there to fish—we spent a week fishing the whole upper Madison and found that the fishiest stretch was the couple hundred yards between the house and Reynolds Bridge. The house and setting are even more gorgeous than the pictures. And Sam and Kathy have through of every little detail: bear spray, flies, game room, TVs everywhere, 2 sets of washers and dryers, etc. And the house itself is immaculately clean and well cared for. Leading up to our trip I had many random questions and I got thorough and thoughtful answers to all of them within 10 minutes of writing to Sam or Kathy. This place really is the gold standard of rental properties. If you’re looking to spend some time in this gorgeous corner of the world, you will not find a better place to spend it than the Caddis Shack!

Amazing home!
Our extended family stayed here for a week in the end of July and loved it. The home was a perfect "home base" for all activities in the area. Our school age kids loved the home and walking down to the river to play in the water and discover all sorts of aquatic insects (nymphs) under the rocks. My brother fly fished there every morning before our days started. He booked a fly fishing trip with Madison River Outfitters and had an amazing day in the park. My parents in their 70s felt very comfortable in the home. Plenty of space and everything we needed was already there. Would recommend stopping at grocery store before coming into town, as nearest grocery stores in W Yellowstone aren't great. Lots of coolers in the home provided though to keep groceries cold. Spent 2 full days in the park (~35min away) and felt it was close enough by and accessible. Nice to be away from the hustle and souvenir shops of West Yellowstone. The drive to W Yellowstone is really beautiful and would especially recommend taking 287 instead of 87 in. Made a stop at the Quake Visitor Center and hiked down to Quake lake too, very cool place with a lot of history. Lots of places to pull over too and get some pics and read about the formation of the lake. Close by hikes to the house are great too if you need a break from driving to and around park. Sheep Creek Trail (1 mile away) gets you into the woods fast; Mile Creek Trail (5 miles away) takes a bit longer to get into wooded area but did spot a black bear only 1.5mi into the trail; this one eventually connects to Cont Divide Trail. Home was very clean, good wifi, cable TV for the kids when they needed downtime to watch some cartoons. New basement bedroom/bath is very comfortable as well. Nice ping pong table too. Made fires at the pit several nights (wood included in the basement, so was very easy). close by Wade Lake (8mi away) was amazing too- rented paddleboards/kayaks. Grizzly Bar & Grill closest restaurant and was very good. Power went out 1 night for several hours and owner/property manager were very quick to respond via phone calls and texts. Would come back again for sure! Great price for what you get. So many memories made. Thank you Caddis Shack!!

Perfect cabin
This cabin had absolutely everything you could possibly need. Plenty of supplies (including soft toliet tissue:-). We cooked 4 nights and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, blenders, etc. We were greeted with chocolate, coffee and some fishing flies. The cabin has a fire pit outside near the river which we loved. We played ping ping and cornhole (at the cabin) with the entire family. There were also board games but we stayed outside most of the time. Bear spray, binoculars and ice chests were available for day use which was wonderful! Being right on the Madison River, my “boys” fished some everyday. We were close to West Yellowstone (30 minutes) and made other day trips to Big Sky (white water rafting), Ennis, and Jackson Hole. After our day trips I soaked in the master bath tub with lavender bath bombs that the owner also had supplied. I would recommend this cabin to parties of 6 to 10 people knowing it will be perfect!

Walk to the Madison River
This house is ideally located on the fiver for access to some of the best wade fishing in the area. A short convenient walk to the river gives access to great fishing within minutes of walking out the back door. The house is stocked with all the amenities you would want for a week of non-stop fishing. Just bring your fishing gear and food and you are set with a fully furnished house and a fully stocked kitchen/dining area.Samantha and Randy have thought of everything and made sure that you are provided with anything you could want in a house. Everything is in nearly new condition and top quality from bedding to dining and cooking utensils to laundry facilities. They even include a well thought out area in the back of the house to store your boots, waders and fishing poles. This location is also convenient to other great fishing waters in the area as well as Yellowstone Park. You will not be for want if you are lucky enough to book a stay at this magnificent house.

A little piece of Heaven!
This place was absolutely amazing! It was far enough away from Yellowstone to feel like you were secluded, but close enough to get to all the comforts of dining and shopping. Our family went here to relax and fish. We were surprised by how much more there was to experience. The stars were amazing! The kitchen was well-stocked for us foodies who love to cook. There were lakes close by that are a nice day trip, Cliff Lake and Wade Lake with turquoise water! And you don't have to go far to fish, right out the back door! We will never forget this amazing place!

Nicest, most comfortable, well equipped vacation home I have ever rented.
Caddis Shack is a little piece of Heaven located on the Madison River in MT. My friends consider me a professional vacationer because I am retired and make many trips a year to places I love. After reading about the Caddis Shack along with the reviews, I had very high expectations. My husband and I invited our best friends to join us and I really didn't want to let anyone down on my selection for our vacation home. The Caddis Shack exceeded my expectations, and that is saying a lot!!! The owners, Samantha and Randy, made this cabin into a vacationers dream. It was beautifully furnished from top to bottom and everything was so comfortable. We enjoyed sitting in the great room and looking at the river and mountains. We had every breakfast and dinner in the cabin and we enjoyed using the kitchen so much. Top notch appliances, large and small. Even a coffee grinder was provided, very important to us coffee lovers. The dishes and silverware were plentiful and top notch. Pots, pans, mixing bowls, everything a well stocked kitchen should have...even zip lock baggies which came in very handy for our daily picnics. The bedrooms and bathrooms were also fantastic, wonderful mattresses, sheets, towels, extra toiletries in case you have forgotten something, even Q-tips. The cabin wide deck on the back of the cabin provided us with a beautiful view of the mountains and river, chairs to relax in, a picnic table, and a very nice grill with extra propane in case we needed it. The owners provided a lot of extras such as bear spray, bug spray, coolers (with ice packs), backpack outdoor chairs you can borrow for the park, a ping pong table, even corn hole. After a day out sight seeing we were able to wash our clothes in two sets of washers and dryers, washing detergent was provided too. One of the most important things to me is cleanliness...the cabin was spotless!!! The week at the Caddis Shack flew by, we really would have loved to stay another week. If you're considering the Caddis Shack, I can tell you, you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait for our next trip. Thank you Samantha and Randy for sharing your beautiful cabin!!!

Pretty amazing for a "Shack"
The Caddis Shack is by no means a "shack." From what I know it was built to be a fishing house. You enter into the kitchen/dining room area. A big long bench seat dining table awaits you. Huge living area with bedrooms at each end of the home, with a loft and yes they are adding a master bath and rec room in the "basement" area. I stayed here with two other women for the Madison River Fly School put on by Riverside Anglers/Alice Owsley. It was beautiful, clean and I tell you if I could have packed that mattress and pillow in my suitcase it would have gone home with me. It was COMFORTABLE! What struck me most besides everything being top of the line is how quiet the home and the area was. We held class at the rivers edge and waded into the water which was a short hike from the cabin deck area. The owners paid attention to detail leaving us flies from the local fly shop to use during our trip and coffee from the local coffee house up the road for fresh perked coffee each morning. I would highly reccommend this as a must stay place! The owners pay great attention to detail to make sure your experience is great!

Very nice home in a beautiful place.
We stayed for a week and enjoyed our stay. The house was updated, comfortable and clean. It was well furnished and the beds were very comfortable. Blue ribbon fly fishing is a short walk from the back door. A river really does run through it. We came for the quiet and the proximity to Yellowstone. The VRBO representative meet us when we arrived, which is not expected but we did appreciate it. She was very nice and helpful and it was good to know that there was someone nearby for questions. We had a great time and I would like to go back next year.

The couches, beds, and chairs were very comfortable and the decor was "woodsy" and absolutely lovely. My husband and I and our two Granddaughters, ages 13 & 14, spent a fablous week enjoying this beautiful home. The owners have thought about everything from any gadget you might need in the kitchen, the most comfortable beds I have experienced in any property we have stayed in, great washer and dryer and the TV's! The space was unbelievable......we didn't even use the loft or the lower level space and still had plenty of room. The deck over looking the Madison River was the place my husband and I loved to sit and just take in our surroundings. The sound of the river and sitting to watch the sun sets will forever be in our memories. Thanks to Kathy, the property manager for all of her assistance in making this a great experience for all of us. Also, Samatha, the owner, for her kindness in letting me know she found one of the Granddaughter's new Yellowstone shirt, and will be mailing it to me! We barbqued and ate on the deck almost every night but we had a difficult time reading the books we brought because we kept staring at amazing view! Randy and Sam's suggestions for places to eat and river guides were spot on. Our son was fly fishing like a pro by the end of the trip (thanks to Madison River Outfitters and Rick Welle)! Amazing home on the Madison River
We stayed at the Caddis Shack the week of July 23rd to the 30th. The Caddis Shack was perfect for our group of flyfishers, the downstairs room is great for storing your rods and waders and other gear between trips to the river. The house is in an amazing location, its right on the upper Madison river and just a short walk to some of the best fishing on the river and its also just a short drive to the world famous Henrys Fork of the snake River and Yellowstone Park and all its fishing opportunities. the inside of the house is beautiful, all the furniture and beds are very comfortable and the house is well stocked. It would also be a great place for families to stay at while exploring southwest Montana and Yellowstone. We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our week fishing in Southwest Montana.

Fantastic!!
The Caddis Shack is THE best place I have stayed in the area. I have been fishing the Madison for decades, and have stayed at a number of places. The Caddis Shack tops them all. Excellent creature comforts as well as excellent river access. In addition to the important details such as fabulous porch and bbq to cook and enjoy dinners; comfortable beds, couches and chairs; an extremely well stocked kitchen; a great entertainment system when you want to chill and watch a baseball game instead of fish; and a great lay out to relax and enjoy, some of the other little details really make a difference. Thank you for the ice packs in the freezer - a wonderful touch to soothe my aching knees after stumbling around on the Madison all day. And the rod rack, and the hooks for vests and waders, and the extra hemos, and the binoculars so I could watch the osprey, and the extra coffee, and on and on. Great place to stay, particularly if you like to fish the best trout river in the world. Thanks Kathy, Randy and Samantha. Look forward to coming back soon.

Wow, What a wonderful place. The area and the big sky views are wonderful, we knew that and love that, but the Caddis Shack was the perfect vacation home base to enjoy the area. 4th of July rodeo in Ennis, West Yellowstone, The Yellowstone National park, the Grizzly bar & grill, Madison river outfitters, the fire pit, and of course the Madison river. All were phenomenal. The house is perfectly appointed for multiple couples and/or kids, everything you could possibly think you might need for a great stay is there. The fishing was great and my son was catching plenty of fish right behind the house until dark (10:00) after each full day float on the river with guides Mike and Alice. great get a way and family time, not to mention great fly fishing on the world famous Madison. Couldn't have been a better trip. Looking for dates next year and hope to stay longer. Thanks to Randy, Samantha and Kathy!

We absolutely loved this home
We absolutely loved this home. We came to West Yellowstone area to run in the West Yellowstone half marathon and to explore West Yellowstone park and the Grand Tetons. We had 7 adults stay in the home and there was plenty of room for all of us. The home owner thought of everything. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. The location is phenomenal and made for an easy drive to everything we wanted to see and do. Plus, the home is right on the Madison River. It is obviously a great place to fly fish. Bald eagles flew over the river every day and pronghorn are seen every day. We actually would've been satisfied staying at the house and wish we had a day just to sit and enjoy the house because it is so nice but we felt we needed to see the parks (next time!). I think the men wanted to take the recliners home with them. Kathy and the owner (Samantha) are so easy to work with and are so friendly. We would love to return and stay at the Caddis Shack again.

WISH WE HAD PLANNED TO STAY LONGER
I want to start by saying that it has taken me so long to write this review, for fear that this place will become so popular, that we may need to reserve a year in advance. That being said, it would not be fair to the owners that have obviously put their hearts and souls into this so called "shack" to not share our experience. I highly recommend staying in this gorgeous log home. This place is luxuriously rustic, not the least bit kitschy or fussy, as some I have encountered. The owners have obviously equipped it with only top-notch furnishings. There was nothing overlooked. I discovered that I had left my toothbrush at a hotel we stayed at previous to arriving at the Caddis Shack. In a drawer in our bathroom, there was all the kinds of fresh toiletries you may have forgotten to bring. Never, have I ever, encountered that in a vacation rental. Just shows you what kind of thought has gone into renting this home. As the pictures show, this place is located right on the Madison River and has amazing views from every door and window. We were greeted daily by a couple of bald eagles flying back and forth over the river, and a male pronghorn with his harem grazing in the front yard. The home is located far enough off the main road to be void of any annoying sound, but close enough to make travel very convenient. Our group thoroughly enjoyed cooking in the chef's kitchen and sleeping on the very comfortable beds. If cooking isn't your thing, I recommend a local restaurant called the Grizzly Bar and Grill. Both our meals there were so delicious and the staff, very attentive. Our week's stay at the Caddis Shack consisted of a visit to Yellowstone National Park; fly fishing right on the property and, also down the road a bit, at the famous Three Dollar Bridge; and visiting the nearby quaint towns of Ennis and West Yellowstone. A couple of evenings we spent time, down at the fire pit, reminiscing about the great day we had enjoyed. As I mentioned in the title, we only wish we had planned to stay longer. We're coming back next year and hope to add hiking, horseback riding, kayaking at a couple of nearby lakes, and visiting the award winning Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center to our vacation. Honestly, you need not look any further. This place cannot, and will not disappoint!

Phenomenal. Will definitely return
This is the best fishing cabin I've ever had the pleasure to stay at. As other reviewers have said the photos of the cabin and the area simply do not do this place justice. Located right on the river this cabin is equally well suited as a base for exploring Yellowstone or any of the other numerous local outdoor attractions with the family, or simply fly fishing on the Madison. The cabin is beautifully executed and completely stocked with everything you might need for a day on the river or a trip to the nearby parks (full washer/dryer and supplies, coolers, binoculars, local guide books) and all the creature comforts you expect in a high end rental, which is a nice touch that is commonly overlooked by similar places. We spent the majority of our time fishing, which was great. The staging area for your waders, rods and equipment on the back porch is also a great feature. The proximity of the cabin eliminated much of the stress that I find comes with planning a big trip (waking up early, remembering all your gear, getting on the river during a hatch, etc). In fact, so close is the cabin, I was seated on the couch, gear stowed and watching TV within five minutes of spotting the approaching afternoon thunderstorm from the river. I very highly recommend The Caddis Shack, its location/setting is perfect for just about anything, and look forward to returning in the future.

The Caddis Shack is AMAZING!!
This place was AMAZING. A brand new Montana retreat right along the Madison River! The house is breathtaking and designed around stellar views of the river and mountains. Not only was the house beautifully done, it appears the owners have thought of everything. The house is stocked with everything you need to make your stay in Montana unforgettable. From coolers you can take on hikes and picnics, to guide books and binoculars, it seems as though they had accounted for every whim of any guest. It was wonderful to be so close to Yellowstone, that is if you can pull yourself away from the river for even a day. The stars were amazing at night and we were lucky to see a few rainbows over the mountains during our stay. I would highly recommend The Caddis Shack to everyone! We are already planning to book another week for next year!!

Beautiful location along the Madison River
My husband and I stayed 3 days. The place is amazing. Great views out all the windows. The house was very beautifully done. A lot of thought went into making this such a great place. Great fishing! It's amazing the amount of stars you can see! Very quiet and peaceful! We would come again!

Don't look any further
You can stop now - you've found the perfect place. The 6 of us (including 4 teenagers with a wide range of ages) stayed a week. The house had everything we needed - Kathy Looney was wonderful to work with. The photos on the site do not do the views justice at all. You could hear the river from every open window in the house. Top of the line everything in the house including washer and dryer so it was not at all burdensome to do laundry on vacation (laundry supplies provided!). The house is about 30 minutes from the town of West Yellowstone and the entrance to the park. But it is one of the most beautiful drives you will ever make around Hebgen and Earthquake lakes. If you like to fly fish - this place must be the perfect fit - however we did not do that on this trip. But we saw several people in the river each day and we could walk to the river ourselves.

Beautiful "Caddis Shack"
I can't tell you how much we enjoyed the Caddis Shack. We have rented many houses through VRBO but this one definitely tops the list of all the places we have stayed. The house was amazing in every aspect. There is an incredible view out every single door and window of the house and it was so comfortable from the amazingly well stocked chef's kitchen to the comfortable living space and comfortable bedrooms. As we said in the guest book, we felt very pampered and welcomed. We were so depressed when we left! Kathy Looney was very welcoming and helpful as a wealth of information on places to see and visit. I could go on and on but suffice it to say, if we ever end up on that part of the country again, we would love to stay in Caddis Shack. The surrounding country side is so beautiful. There was just one incredible scene after another from bogs, to mountain passes that open up to expansive valleys, alpine meadows, lakes, rivers, etc, etc!! And LOTS of birds and wildlife and fishing. Definitely a 5 star vacation house!

Fabulous house in beautiful location
My wife and I had heard from friends how beautiful this part of Montana is but pictures do not do it justice. Both of us are amateur astronomers and I love to fish. We went up with another couple and had a great time. The house is gorgeous and the owners thought of everything down to crayons and coloring books for any kids that came. It's located right on the Madison River which meant we could decide to fish and literally have a lure in the water within 5 minutes. We loved the decor and it was really nice to have the master bedroom on one side of the house and the other 2 bedrooms on the other side. Along the back of the house is a beautiful deck facing the river. There is a fire pit outside and the owners even left us some wood to burn. The scenery outside is majestic and we spent afternoons looking for bighorn sheep on the mountain with the binoculars provided for the guests. There is nothing we needed or wanted that wasn't provided. It's like the owners put themsleves in the place of renters and thought of everything they'd want and then provided it for us. West Yellowstone is a short drive away and a fun place to visit. The weather only gave us one night of stargazing but that's ok, it gives us a reason to go back! We LOVE the Caddis Shack !!!

Montana at it's finest!
A week in Montana paradise! Stayed with 3 couples and it was perfect! So peaceful and beautiful. The sound of the river just yards from the house was so relaxing. The owners thought of everything when building and furnishing this house. The kitchen was so well stocked with all the dishes, gadgets, cook wear and everything needed for preparing gourmet meals. The fire places set the ambience and the Wifi and sound system were perfect. To be able to walk a few yards out the backdoor to the river and fish was the best! Lazing away the hours on the deck watching the osprey, eagles and pronghorn sheep was so enjoyable. Exploring the area's local restaurants, taverns, hiking trails & horseback riding were a few of the things we did. The weather was gorgeous the beginning of our week and the last 3 days were rainy and on the cool side, but no matter, that just gave us an excuse to really enjoy the comforts of this home ! Can't wait to hopefully return to the Caddis Shack again!

Jewel on the Madison
If you're looking for a true Montana experience, The Caddis Shack is your spot. (not a shack by any stretch though) First, we were very impressed with the attention to detail the owner has given to this property. It's entirely furnished with custom made furnishings, perfect for a luxury log home. Everything has been thought of for our comfort and convenience! We've rented other vacation homes & condos, and this one is the best ever, by far! The Caddis Shack is private and quiet. We slept with our bedroom slider door open, in a very comfortable king bed, listening to the sound of the river.. so restful. At night, we sat on the spacious deck and watched the stars. No city light pollution here! And we were delighted with all the wildlife we spotted, including a busy little red fox! I could go on and on, but the bottom line is The Caddis Shack is a Jewel on the Madison that will not disappoint. It will exceed expectations by a mile!

A fantastic month on the Madison River at The Caddis Shack
Starting at first contact with Samantha and Randy (owners), our experience was flawless. They kept an open line of communication leading up to our arrival and were very organized during the process. They made everything easy on our group (four adults and one infant). The property itself is magnificient. We spent a ton of time outside fishing closeby, hanging and grilling on the porch and soaking in all the fresh air and beautiful views. A fully stocked kitchen, cozy open air living space, and comfortable beds were just icing on the cake. The location is super convenient to a host of sightseeing and activities; Yellowstone, Ennis, the rodeo, hiking, fishing, Bozeman. We were there a whole month and I feel we barely scratched the surface. Our damage deposit was returned promptly and in full, even though we broke a little piece off a bench which would have warrented a deduction. Instead, Samantha had the property manager (who was wonderful) come and fix it at no cost to us. I highly reccomened this property. I book vacations frequently through VRBO and this was hands down the nicest place so far. I cannot wait to return.
